On this site you will find information and products about Nature's Ethnobotanicals for relaxation, stress relief and happy times. We firmly believe that Nature has given us these wonderful gifts to help us enjoy life's pleasures. You will not find things such as Salvia on our site, which we believe is being marketed as a "recreational substance" when it is anything but. Salvia can be dangerous. The herbs we market are safe and natural and don't have the "freak-out" factor that some substances provide. They are all extremely enjoyable!

Blue Lotus is a Sedative/Euphoriant and a safe alternative to Diezepam (Valium). 5 to 10 gms of the tea will give you a "hypnotic sedative" effect (sort of like the Cannabis of ancient Egypt). Actually, it is a pretty good sedative with a mild, opiod like feeling.

The effects of Blue Lotus have been described by some people as similar to Ecstasy (MDMA) or Diezepam (Valium), while others describe it to be similar to Marijuana. It is also said to enhance sexual pleasure. All in all, it provides a nice, mellow, tranquil and euphoric feeling. It can be mixed with your favourite smoking mixture or made into a tea (use 5 to 10 grams) and drink after letting it steep for about 20 minutes.

Blue Lotus Effects

The statements below have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) or Health Canada. Information regarding the use of blue lotus in folk medicine is provided for education purposes only, it is not intended as medical advice.

The main effects of Blue lotus are a pleasant feeling of warmth around the head, a very comfortable and dreamy feeling and maybe slightly stimulant effect. Others claim it gives them a sedative effect. Blue Lotus (Nymphaea Caerulea) is generally regarded as a Sedative/Euphoriant. 5 to 10 gms of the tea will give you a "hypnotic sedative" effect (sort of like the Cannabis of ancient Egypt). Actually, it is a pretty good sedative with a mild, opiod like feeling.

Because of the mythological, cosmological, symbolic, and artistic significance of the blue lotus, many feel that the ancient Egyptians used the blue lotus for its inebriating effects. Because of its mythological and cosmological symbolism, the blue lotus flower was seen as an elite flower that produced shamanic effects.

The blue lotus flower contains a alkaloid called nuciferine, soluble in alcohol but not known to be psychoactive. Nuciferin is anti-spasmodic and likely contains aporphine. You'd need a good 5g, which is about 3-5 flowers, in order for the flowers to be active. You can either ingest the blue lotus, smoke the blue lotus, make a tea from the blue lotus, or make wine blue lotus. It has been documented that blue lotus appears to be a hypnotic sedative. Some people compare the effects as being similar to MDMA or Ecstacy, but most will say it's much like cannabis, codeine, or propoxyphene. It's has been said to be much more of a hypnotic effect rather than a hallucinatory effect. It is also said to contain the alkaloid apomorphine, which has reportedly been recently isolated by independent labs.

The blue lotus water lily flower also has a sexual effect on people. The famous Dr. Liz Williamson says that the flower has "a sort of Viagra effect". As a matter of fact, one of the active alkoloids in blue lotus is an ingredient used to make Viagra.

Due to the psychoactive properties that blue lotus has, recent studies have shown that the blue lotus may have been used as a sacrament in ancient Egypt, as well as certain ancient South American cultures.

Used in aromatherapy the blue lotus produces psychoactive effects that are purported to have a "divine" essence, which brings upon the feelings of tranquility and euphoria. There are also reports of this blue water lily producing an anti-spasmodic and sedative, purfying and calming effect.

Smoking Blue Lotus

There's many ways to use this wonderful blue lily. Many people make blue lotus tea, others make blue lotus wine, but don't forget that it's also a very nice flower to smoke.

In smoking blue lotus, it's recommended that you get a mix of both pedals and bulbs, the reason being is that most of the active relaxing ingredient resides in the center of the blue lotus bulb. Don't be confused by the pretty blue lotus pedals and think that its the only part of the blue lotus you smoke.

Start off with a nice mix of about 5 grams of Nymphaea caerulea Egyptian blue lotus. Take out a nice heaping pinch (a full bowl) and place into a water pipe. Smoke nice and slow and sit back and relax. Using ice cold water in a water pipe makes for a nice blue lotus smokeable as you don't want to burn it too hot. You do have to smoke quite a lot (2 bowls) to get a nice relaxing mood going and the taste is fantastic. We also recommend smoking the blue lotus while drinking blue lotus tea to really get the full effect of the blue lotus egyptian tradition.

If you do have other herbal blends, blue lotus goes well with every other smokable herb out there. You can always add a little blue lotus to anything to increase your relaxing mode.

Blue Lotus Tea

Blue lotus tea has recently become very popular in modern culture. It not only has a great taste to it, but blue lotus tea will give you a wonderful feeling of relaxation and sedation. Blue lotus tea is also very easy to make. We recommend buying your blue lotus from HippieHerbs.com, who have the best prices and the highest quality.

In order to make your blue lotus tea, you'll need a few things:

-Tea bag or tea filter
-2 cups boiling water
-5-10 grams of blue lotus per serving
-1 tbls of honey (optional)
-1 tbls of lemon juice (optional)

Now as you can see, you may add optional ingredients to fit your blue lotus tea to taste. We always recommend a bit of honey and lemon juice to give it a nice flavor. First you want to heat up 2 cups of boiling water. Second, you want to fill up a tea bag or filter with 5-10 grams of premium blue lotus. Drop your blue lotus tea bag into the water and let it sit submerged for a good 10-20 minutes. Any type of tea filter will work, as long as you keep the blue lotus submerged for a good 10-20 minutes. Third, you want to add your extra ingredients to perfect your desired taste. Give your blue lotus a good stir and enjoy!

After drinking your blue lotus tea, effects should begin within 30 minutes and can last up to 2 hours. The effects will be very relaxing, soothing, sedative, and dream-like. The strength of your blue lotus tea also depends on the amount of dried blue lotus used. We recommend using at least 5 grams, which will be on the lighter side, where 15-20 grams would be on the heavier side.
